A New Day

The morning dawned in a bright new way

Dark hovering clouds, in shades of grey

Relief in truth, a lightness felt

Freedom found, facades a’melt

Standards tested yet again

Challenging way for the day to begin

Started to cave, engage, infect

Remembered, retreated, paused to reflect

No matter how sad, unfortunate, misused

No matter the gifts , tossed away and abused

That is theirs and this is mine

No longer can that intertwine

Makes me sad, but woe is they

Who chose to throw it all away

Lessons learned, never erased

Steps of yesterday, not retraced.

Forward flow, head held high

We each make our choices – you and I.
